Chakra panels

Illustration: chakra panels overview

Like the Zen panels, the Chakra panels are a series of paintings executed in a procedural, layered manner. Combined with collages, the prominent element depicts an almost symmetrical object resembling wheels. Zen panels paintings overview

Flat panels, built up on pressboard, mounted newsprint and industrial, high gloss lacquer. Abstract, procedural gestures with floating elements crossing vivid dimensions. Zen shapes

Geometric assemblages black

An addition to the previously constructed series of geometric assemblages. Cut out or punched shapes, flatly painted in bright hues. Black painted surfaces prevail, dominant, dramatic with a strong dynamic. In contrast to the white series, the grooves and gaps are clearly defined by shapes and vice versa. Texture stems from a rough coat of paint. Read more »

Lab compositions

Detail illustration: lab composition

The series of the lab compositions started with a found set of old, dusty stencils, crude cutouts of cylinders, test-tubes, funnels and bowls. Combining shapes and color in multiple ways form different compositions. Some distantly resemble laboratory set-ups, filled with colored liquids. Others are silhouettes, more abstract, flat and pattern like. Few appear to be set in a constructed, surrealistic landscape. Space and depth are vaguely hinted by shading the fragile, translucent objects and coloring them on different background layers. Read more »

Geometric assemblages

Overview: geometric assemblages

A series of highly abstract hard edged geometric compositions. Limited in color and hue. These small scale cardboard assemblages sharpen the eye of the viewer to the texture of the surface as a whole. Primed and twice coated, the applied acrylic paint exudes the perception of three-dimensional character. Taking advantage, and exposing the material, grooves and gaps random scatter throughout the surface. Read more »

Small scale watercolors

Small watercolor: Stones in the pond

This ongoing series, (2003 – current) of small watercolor paintings measuring 6" by 4" (155mm by 105mm), approximately the size of a postcard. I continue working infrequently on this series, with inspiration and contributions from IOH.

As they appear to be exercises, many of them are quite elaborate and detailed. Composed of layers of color over time. Their subjects varying from nature to architecture to robots to miniature people to animals—even a few abstract and organic pieces are included.

Gritty urban black and white

Illustration: ink drawing New York skyline

"Brilliant", "Quite Good", "Mesmerizing", these are just some of the comments made recently regarding these small formated gritty urban black and white ink pen drawings. Somehow the intricate execution combined with the bent and multiple perspectives seem paradox, yet it sends out a claustrophobic density that hides behind imaginary layers of angles and corners.

At first glance the drawings may seem disenchanting, however its study reveals curiosity, and one self wishes to peak around the corner, down the narrow alley, or through one of the countless windows.
